The BIOS is definitely not seeing either drive at least as far as the F12 boot menu is concerned. I would definitely NOT flash a BIOS on a non-functioning or poorly functioning PC!Ĥ. There is now two pages of input with no resolution and indeed an escalating situation.ģ. I do not know how help can be offered while we are unsure if the CMOS is receiving 3V or more or not and I do not see the point in offering advice until this is cleared up as the symptoms could be low voltage. Why have you not replaced the battery? A CR2032 can be had for cheap at several stores Fry's Electronics, BatteriesPlus, Radio Shack, etc. You may find a solution by posting on the Dell forums or contacting Dell support.īut I can't do this if I can't get to the boot menu, can I?ġ. I would advise that flashing your firmware should be a last resort. This should give you a boot menu to select the USB flash drive as a boot device. When listed then type WS490A08.exe at the command prompt.Īttach the flash drive and tap F12 while booting the computer. If not try another drive letter and DIR command until WS490A08 is listed. This should list the WS490A08 file on the flash drive. I would do a Dir command at the A: prompt first. See this post on creating a USB bootable flash drive with the firmware. Because you cannot access BIOS or Windows your only chance would be by booting a USB with the WS490A08.EXE on the root of the USB flash drive. The file which is WS490A08.EXE is a Windows/DOS install.

According to your service tag the latest BIOS firmware update is A08. I don't know what else to try other than updating the firmware but this has the possibility of bricking the computer.
